To involve the whole school in modeling, teaching, and reinforcing
good character, staff development is essential. The WiseSkills Training helps school
staff implement a comprehensive character education initiative by developing a common language and integrating
academic learning (knowledge) with character development (wisdom). While WiseSkills is easy for counselors and teachers to use, it is recommended that schools implementing the program
schoolwide train their staff with either a LIVE or video training. All of the WiseSkills Trainings can be used in conjunction with Character Counts! to teach the Six Pillars of Character.
There are five WiseSkillsTrainings available for schools:
5. Community Training Training for schools using parent volunteers to arrange regular service projects for classes and ongoing career speakers. (Watch excerpt from Community Training)
Each of these trainings include both a Leadership Training for the School Leadership Team, and a Staff Training
for all school staff. These interactive, hands-on workshops help
participants understand the importance of creating a schoolwide culture
of character and provides opportunities for staff to work together in
teams to plan specific ways to highlight healthy choices throughout the
school year. The Leadership Training helps the Leadership Team apply the critical Action Steps for sustaining and implementing the program, while the Staff Training equips all educators with practical classroom strategies for teaching
good character.
