Many adolescents lack positive and consistent guidance in their lives to help them make good decisions. Middle and high schools across the country use the WiseSkillsclassroom activities in advisory periods to engage students with relevant discussions about the choices they make in everyday life. WiseSkills includes practical, ready-to-use resources for advisory teachers that foster meaningful discussions about the importance of good character. Because advisory teachers have little time to prepare lessons, the WiseSkills activities require no teacher preparation and are designed for 10-20 minute class periods.
The WiseSkills character education program is organized around monthly Character Themes, which allows the entire school to use a common language of character throughout the year. The WiseSkillsclassroom curricula includes activities and projects that integrate the monthly themes into every subject area, including English/language arts, social studies, math, science, foreign language, and P.E. Consequently, in addition to the advisory activities, teachers can also connect the schoolwide Character Themes to the subjects they teach. All of the WiseSkills resources help Character Counts! schools teach and reinforce the Six Pillars of Character.
